Interfaith Briefing to Get Ready to Advocate for Women’s Health

On April 7, pro-choice people of faith from throughout the country came to Washington, DC, to stand up for women’s access to reproductive health care and choices.

We brought our unique faith message to the Stand Up for Women’s Health lobby day: we believe in compassion, justice and the dignity of all women.

It is because of our faith commitments that we are compelled to speak out against restrictions on women’s access to comprehensive reproductive health care options, including abortion, contraception, HIV/STD testing, and other essential services.

  1. As faith-centered individuals and organizations, we are committed to helping the most marginalized and most vulnerable of our society, especially those with limited financial means or who live in areas with limited access to services. Reducing health care options for some, based on their economic status or location, is profoundly unjust.

My favorite part of the day was coming together with clergy people and lay people to share our pro-choice values with a Representative from Virginia. We had a group that self-identified as United Methodist, Presbyterian, and Jewish all coming together to tell the Representative that it is because of our faith we belive in a woman’s right to choose. It was a powerful day for pro-choice people of faith! Thanks to everyone who made it possible.
